The Housing Choice Voucher Program (also called Section 8) was authorized by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. The program is open to low-income individuals without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender or status regarding public assistance.
Families pay approximately 30% of the monthly household adjusted gross income for rent and the EDA makes up the difference. The Cambridge EDA pays the rent subsidy directly to the owner of the rental property with funds provided by HUD.
The program services both Chisago and Isanti Counties. Resources for participants and property owners are available through Housing Link.
