Rules and Regulations of the Cambridge-Isanti Bike/Walk Trail

  1. Motorized or Recreational Vehicles - any use of motorized or recreational vehicles on the trail or its right-of-ways is prohibited, except those operated on official business for maintenance, law enforcement or safety and rescue purposes by or for the Cities of Cambridge or Isanti or by any other governmental entity or as other wise authorized by law.
  2. The trail and its right-of-ways can be closed at any time for public use by order of the Police Chief(s), Sheriff or their designee. Unauthorized use of the trail when closed is prohibited.
  3. Winter Usage - when the gates of the trail are closed and posted for winter use only, the gated portion of the trail is closed for use except for hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
  4. Alcoholic Beverages - use or possession of alcoholic beverages on the trail is prohibited. This includes 3.2 non-intoxicating beer, wine and similar beverages and all other alcoholic beverages.
  5. Littering - littering on the trail, trail right-of-way, adjoining property, ponds or watercourses is prohibited. All trash and waste material shall be carried away from the area by the person responsible for its presence. No person shall deposit, dump, or leave any glass bottles or broken glass, discarded vegetation, trash, waste, rubbish or debris of any type upon the trail or its right-of-way nor in the water of any pond, stream or other body of water or wetland adjacent to or in the Trail right-of-way.
  6. Offensive Behavior - offensive, obscene, or abusive language, or boisterous or noisy conduct tending reasonably to arouse alarm, anger or resentment in others, or engaging in immoral or violent conduct, or engaging in brawling or fighting, or engaging in conduct creating or tending to create a disturbance or annoyance to other trail users, or that interferes with the use or enjoyment of the trail by others is prohibited.
  7. Advertising - advertising, selling or attempting to sell or solicit for private gain or cause, or operating non-authorized commercial operations on the trail or its right-of-way is prohibited unless authorized. No person shall post, glue, tack or otherwise post any sign, placard, advertisement, banner or inscription whatsoever, unless so authorized.
  8. Pets - pets must be leashed at all times. Persons accompanying a pet on or along the trail shall properly dispose of all pet waste.
  9. Fires - fires are strictly prohibited. This includes use of portable barbeques, stoves and similar cooking devices.
  10. Firearms and Fireworks - possession or discharging firearms, air rifles, BB guns, sling shots, bow and arrows, other weapons, explosives or fireworks, unless otherwise permitted by law or so authorized is prohibited.
  11. Trail Hours - the trail shall be closed to use after 10:00 pm. No person shall be in, or remain, on the trail or trail right-of-way after that time unless so authorized.
  12. Camping - camping on the trail and its right-of-way is prohibited.
  13. Horses - no person shall ride or allow a horse to be present on the trail or its right-of-way unless so authorized.
  14. Damage to Equipment Trail Facilities - it is unlawful to willfully mark, remove, break, destroy, injure, mutilate, deface or in any way damage or remove any equipment, structure, monument, stake, gate fence, sign, road surface, facility, or natural growth, plants and trees.
  15. Hunting and Trapping - hunting and trapping on the trail and its right-of-way are prohibited.
  16. Wildlife - no person shall willfully injure, molest, pursue or endanger wildlife.
  17. Organized Activities - organized sports, trail activities or active games are prohibited unless authorized.
  18. Swimming - swimming or wading in ponds or streams in trail right-of-way is prohibited.
  19. Penalty for Violation - violation of any provisions of these Rules and Regulations shall be punishable as as misdemeanor. Violators shall be subject, upon conviction, to a fine of up to $1,000.00 and/or incarceration of up to 90 days in jail.


NOTE: Authorization for any exception from these rules, where referenced herein, shall require joint approval of the Cities of Cambridge and Isanti. Each of said Cities may determine its own process for consideration of exception requests but shall communicate to the applicant the requirement that approval for any exception must be obtained from both the City of Cambridge and the City of Isanti. Each City shall notify the other of any requests for exception received by it from any applicant and the status and disposition of such request.
